A new group aims to speak for the horse industry with one voice - something Wyoming State Representative Sue Wallis says is missing and gravely needed. She's a member of the founding leadership team for the United Organizations of the Horse and is its acting director.

We continue our conversation with Jim Scherer, director of Camp Anokijig at Plymouth, Wisconsin. The camp has about 60 horses and for most of the 7-to-16 year-olds who attend the camp, this is their only exposure to horses.

Using horses to help kids learn about themselves.
If you grew up around horses, you know the value of the lessons you learned while caring for those animals and that is why horses are such a popular feature at youth camps around the country. Jim Scherer is director of Camp Anokijig at Plymouth, Wisconsin, they have 60 horses and use them to help 7 to 16-year-olds develop skills, learn about horses and learn about themselves.

How Colorado is addressing the welfare of horses
When it comes to addressing the welfare of horses in Colorado, Scot Dutcher, chief of animal protection at the Colorado Department of Agriculture, says the State Department of Agriculture, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, Colorado State University, Animal Assistance Foundation and Animal Welfare Council have gotten together to combine their efforts.
