Day 2 - Policy change in the offing?

Little more than 24 hours after his arrival, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman and Alimport CEO Pedro Alvarez officially signed a deal for 75,000 tonnes of Nebraska wheat valued at $15.4 million, and for an additional $350,000 worth of Nebraska hams. Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Terry O'Neill pointed out Cuba could buy a lot more Nebraska pork if the U.S. allowed tourists to visit the Caribbean island nation.

While Heineman tried to steer clear of questions related to U.S. policy toward Cuba, he noted as the mission wound down that Nebraska's success in selling ag products to Cuba will facilitate a change in the U.S.-Cuban relationship over the long-term.
